Masonette Cupboards

What is a Masonette Cupboard?

Our first fundraising project was for the creation of a Masonette Cupboard. This wonderful concept is the idea of Mason’s Paediatric Palliative Care Nurse, Sara Fleming. Sara had seen a portable cabinet like these in a Paediatric Palliative Care Department in a hospital overseas, and we are proud to help Sara and her team make this concept come to life.

The Masonette Cupboard is wheeled from room to room, providing homelike comforts to the whole family, while they stay with their child who is being cared for by the Paediatric Palliative Care Nurses.

The Masonette contains items like:

  • Soft, cuddly blankets
  • Pillows
  • Toys (for siblings and child)
  • Aromatherapy
  • Toiletries
  • Books/magazines
  • DVD/CD Player
  • A ‘Dude’ - a very special gift for each child from Mason - (a small toy which Mason used to always carry with him)
  • plus more items that are tailored to an individual family’s needs as required

When the use of the Masonnete Cupboard is not appropriate or if the child is cared for at home, the Nurses take ‘Butterfly Baskets’ filled with similar products including comforting items, food, or toys for the child and their siblings.
