Butterfly Baskets

Our fundraising also helps with our Butterfly Baskets, these are filled with comfort items and taken to families who may be staying in an area of the hospital that is un able to have the Masonette. The nurses can fill the basket from the storage cupboard in the Paediatric Palliative Care office, the cupboard is filled with many items, a lot are donations and others the nurses purchase using the money that we raise at our events. The items are again like the Masonette, for the families to use and take home with them. Some of the items in the baskets are

  • soft cuddly blankets
  • jiffy slippers / socks
  • toiletries
  • coffee / tea
  • magazines
  • toys
  • baby clothes / beanies / socks
  • disposable camera
  • pens and note pads
  • biscuits
  • hot water bottles

Sometimes the basket may be filled with items for the siblings to use, while they are in Hospital with their brother or sister. These items may vary depending on the age of the child, but may include

  • colouring books,
  • games,
  • toys,
  • pencils,
  • DVD’s

the nurses also may take them to the families in their homes, letting them know that there are people who do care, as you can often feel very alone. I like to think that we are sending the families a BIG HUG.

If you were interested in donating items for our Masonette or Butterfly Baskets I’d love to hear from you, you can also take donations into the office of the Women’s & Children’s Hospital Foundation

located opposite the WCH, 72 King William Road North Adelaide ph (08) 8161 7000
